Moorabbin Memories

In the lead up to our 90th anniversary the Executive of the Moorabbin Cricket Club would love to hear about your time at the club, and your favourite memories stemming from that time. This may be a personal achievement by either you or a family member, a team performance, a social event, or simply a funny moment that has stuck with you.

What is your favourite Moorabbin Cricket Club memory?

Want to contribute a Moorabbin Memory to our records? Easiest way is to contact Steve Smith (My Moorabbin Memory) via email and submit your memory online. We ask that a minimum donation of $20 per memory be contributed to the club for each memory. Alternatively you can download the “My Moorabbin Memory” flyer here.

You can find the total list of memories in the links below. We thank each of these members for contributing to this initiative:

“Our greatest memory from Moorabbin Cricket Club (and there were many) was having the honour of our family being voted onto the President’s Award board
– The Bennetts, 16th February 2014

“Season 2006/2007 with the 2nd XI scraping into the top final four, first time in a long while. First week of finals coming up against the undefeated Malvern. Bowled them out 1st day, and recovered from an early slump to win chasing down 230 odd runs.”
– David Camilleri, 16th February 2014

“I was going to slam Graeme Wilson, but……
2nd XI against Brighton in the late 90’s. Chasing 230 something. OPened the batting with Scott Pappin. Passed them ‘none for’. They were very chirpy early, but after Scotty hit opening bowler into the bowling club and told him “You bowl dog sh&t mate”, they shut up. Any win against Brighton or Caulfield are GOLD!
– Stuart Buelke, 1st March  2014
“I was the team manager and Peter King was addressing the side prior to the game and his words have stuck with me forever – If every one of you do something special today we will win the game. And we did, beating top side Caulfield.”
– Charlie Collins, 22nd February 2014

“Under 16 Grand Final. I was happy to be part of a wonderful team. Joined the club half way through the year and we had no hope of winning the final, but after talking to all the boys Steve made sure of winning the grand final”
– Gus Perrera, 16th February 2014

“In the 4th XI grandfinal against Highett in the 1976/77 season. The Highett player smashed the ball to the boundary. Ivor Marshall, chasing the ball, got caught on the boundary rail and spun around 3 times before falling down with broken ribs.”

– Peter Ewin, 22nd February 2014

“The girls causing a stir when the sound of a champagne cork in the stand at Linton Street stopped play! The fellas knew they were driving home again!”

– Jay Jay Lefebvre, 16th February 2014

“The Calypso Disco in 1984. Malcolm Marshall played at Moorabbin at the time and Malcolm invited the other West Indian players to attend and a great night was had by all”
– Joan Wilson, 16th February 2014
